The Detritus of Scientology That Follows A Person Long After Leaving and How to Cope
Leaving Scientology is the first step to getting rid of what happened to someone in Scientology. . Walking out of the doors of Scientology takes a lot of courage. Making the decision to leave is just the first step.
It is a rare person who leaves Scientology who has no family members in Scientology. And even those who have no family members in Scientology have friends there. The minute they make the decision to take the walk away, they have not only decided to leave Scientology, they have made the decision to lose contact with any family members who remain in Scientology. They will lose any friendships they made with anyone in Scientology. And most likely, they will lose their job, even if they weren’t on staff.
Scientology is a very closed society. Scientologists associate with Scientologists. They live in homes owned by Scientologists. They work at businesses owned by Scientologists. The teachings emphasize that outsiders are extremely dangerous. They are considered the worst kind of stranger danger.
A person is brave enough to decide to leave. They believe they are entering enemy territory. This decision is a very brave step in the right direction.
People leaving these days are luckier than they used to be because of resources like The Michael J. Rinder Aftermath Foundation to help them both escape and get their feet under them. But leaving is still only the first step.
Once a person is out, the real work begins. They have to find a place to live and a job to work at. There are many things the person has to do just to become a functioning member of society again. Things that they don’t even realize they don’t know how to do.
Rather than make this post a gigantic one, I will be making a series of posts on this subject. I will link from this post to each of the other posts. This will make them easy to find. I will address at least the following. This list may grow as I start writing posts.
- How to quit using Scientology words and talk like a wog (like – hey, you can’t say that word anymore).
- How working for McDonalds, if that’s where you end up is a step up from – and you probably won’t end up there.
- Forgiving Yourself. Both for getting into Scientology and for What or Who You Left Behind.
- Educational Resources – What Scientology Didn’t tell You – and It’s a Lot.
- How to Get Rid of Arrogance And How to Recognize You Are Acting That Way
- Why therapy is OK. It can be quite wonderful if you can get past the ingrained fear of it.
- Why a Person is not PTS Because They Cough – And Admitting You Are Sick is OK.
- Should you protest?
- Should you tell your story?
- How to quit lying about everything. First, realize that that’s what you have been doing all the time you were in Scientology.
If there is anything else you want me to address, please say so in the comments. I will also add more things to this list as I think of them.
Great News for Paid Subscribers
Starting tomorrow, I will be publishing pages from LRH FBI files. I have 3 sets of files, over 10,000 pages total. Some are simply an entire page of redaction. Tomorrow’s file: A 6 page letter LRH wrote to the FBI regarding the second wife he never claimed to have. It is a great read.
