A Deep Dive Into Scientology Jargon

This post is in response to the November 7, 2024 poll. Remember starting this week, the polls have changed a bit. Instead of a deep dive into jargon, I will be discussing a person anecdote on the subject of your choice. Be sure to get your vote in.

In case you wondered, Scientology’s musters are not the same as other musters. Much like a military muster, the people are lined up for a vocal roll call. In Scientology, this is not just getting together. This is a Hard Stop. If a person who is not at a muster, there are no excuses. There is only punishment.

And this is not just a once a month, week or day thing. This is several times a day. On good days, every staff member must show up for muster before breakfast, before lunch, and after dinner. This means that these meals are very brief. You must be there. You must be on time. If you have a choice between muster and meal, you must choose muster.

If things are going poorly, i.e. a person has escaped from your organization, musters are worse. Every day is a pins and needles situation and everyone must be prepared to muster immediately. This can happen several times a day, even sometimes more than once an hour.

Not only is there a roll call at muster, there is more. If things are going well, the musters include a Chinese school (see Glossary) of Hubbard teachings once a day. If things are going poorly, chances are there are staff beratings at musters.

In other words, muster is just another way to control a person in Scientology completely. A person in Scientology does not have freedom. Amazingly, a person is told that Scientology is the Road to Total Freedom while they gradually lose all control.
