A Deep Dive Into Scientology Jargon

This is post 1 of 2 in for last weeks’ poll. Be sure to place your votes before the new poll closes Thursday at 2. As with most Scientology terminology, 2WC sounds rather inane in the surface. It stands for two way communication, i.e. a conversation. Yup that’s it. So why 2WC?

Of course, Hubbard had very stringent rules on exactly what and how you were allowed to communicate. We were trained on the importance of a proper comm cycle (cycle of communication). If it did not go in this exact sequence, there would only be misunderstandings. This was due to interruption of the cycle. Yes my eyes are rolling too while I’m typing this.

Per Hubbard, the only proper way to communicate in a manner that would not cause upset was:

  • origination of communication,
  • receipt of communication,
  • answering a communication given,
  • acknowledging answers

Yes, you read that right. That was the only way to have a conversation that didn’t end in an argument, according to Hubbard. As with all of Hubbard’s teachings, there were contradictory teachings that said different things. This is something that people in Scientology run up against on a daily basis and learn to overlook.

As you get further in Scientology, you are introduced to the Third Party Rule. Per Hubbard, in order for two people to have a disagreement, there must be an outside source. This source is a third party feeding either or both parties misleading information. This information will then cause conflict.

When you start Scientology, you are taught one thing. The only reason you disagree with someone is because you have an incomplete comm cycle. This is one of many of Hubbard’s contradictory yet unalterable rules. You learn how to do the robotic 2WC required of any Scientologist. And here’s the scary part. By the time you hit the part where you are told about Third Party, 2WC has become a way of life. You don’t remember that the comm cycle was supposed to be the way to avoid all conflict.

This happens over and over to any person who stays in Scientology. They are too busy looking at the next carrot. They ignore the fact that the last carrot was not real. Until one day, everyone but the die hards wake up.
